Tack strips around the room perimeter, pad rolled flat, carpet stretched and tucked. Power-stretching is non-negotiable.

Acclimate 24 hours
Unroll carpet and let it relax in the install room.

Tack strip + pad
Strip 1/2" from baseboard, tacks pointing toward wall. Roll out pad, staple every 6".

Seam plan
Run seams parallel to main light source and away from traffic paths.

Heat-seam pieces
Use seaming tape and iron - never duct tape.

Power-stretch
Stretch wall-to-wall with a power stretcher (not a knee kicker alone) to prevent ripples.

Trim and tuck
Trim along baseboard with row-cutter, tuck under shoe molding.

Ripples or buckles
Stretch failed (knee-kicker only) or humidity swing. Re-power-stretch - don't recut.
Matting in high-traffic lanes
Fiber crushed from wear. Restore loose pile by raking against the nap; replace matted-flat sections.
Pet stains soaking through to pad
Pull the carpet back, replace the affected pad section, treat the subfloor with enzyme cleaner, reinstall.
Snags from pet nails
Trim with scissors flush - never pull a snag, you'll unravel a row.
Visible seams
Seam tape failed or nap ran wrong way. Re-seam with the nap running the same direction across both pieces.
Static shocks in winter
Low indoor humidity. Run a humidifier to 40% RH; anti-static spray helps temporarily.

Carpet is the warmest, quietest, and cheapest underfoot - but the shortest-lived of any floor we install. Budget for replacement at 10 years for mid-grade synthetics, 15+ for wool.

- Nylon is most durable (best for whole-house). Polyester is softer and stain-resistant but mats faster. Wool is the longest-lived but requires the most care and costs 2–3× more.
- Every 12–18 months per most warranty terms. Hot-water extraction (truck-mounted) is the standard - DIY rentals don't extract enough water and leave detergent behind.
- Modern carpets with low-VOC backing and HEPA vacuuming trap allergens rather than letting them recirculate. Hard floors actually let allergens stay airborne longer between cleanings.
- 8-lb density, 7/16" rebond for most homes. Thicker is not better - over 1/2" voids many warranties and causes seam failure.
- No. Old carpet and pad trap moisture, harbor allergens, and double the height at thresholds. Always remove first.
